James Franks was born in Clarendon, Arkansas on June 28, 1926, to Shed and Ora Franks. He attended and graduated from Marvell High School. He moved to Postelle, Arkansas and later resided in Marvell, Arkansas until he became ill. He was preceded in death by his parents, Shed and Ora Franks, two brothers, Edgar Taylor and Roosevelt Franks; one sister, Creola Tabb, and his wife of 47 years, Alean Porter Franks. He professed faith at an early age at St. Joseph Church in Postelle, Arkansas. He later rededicated his life in 2002 at Tucker’s Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as deacon under the leadership of Pastor Womack, until his health began to fail. James was a carpenter, bricklayer and homebuilder for many years; he worked at The Sawmill, on the railroad, and retired from the BGADC Center in Marvell, Arkansas, after 29 years. James was also a well-known farmer. Some of his hobbies included, gardening, pedaling in the yard, and doing things around his home. On Friday, August 17, 2018 at 3:30p.m., after a visit with family and friends, James quietly said goodbye to his earthly home to earn his heavenly wings.
James leaves to cherish his memories, seven sons, Sammie (Erma), Undra (Linda), Ray (Raevelyn) of Little Rock, Arkansas, Hurby (Joan) of Memphis, Tennessee, Richard (Rochelle) of Lexa, Arkansas, Ceotis Franks of Texarkana, Arkansas, Christopher Franks of Marvell, Arkansas, and Jeff Porter of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Five daughters, Patricia (Maurice) Gant of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jacqueline (James) Moore of Douglasville, Georgia, Shirley (Calvin) Moore, Memphis, Tennessee, and Shelia Jones of Conway, Arkansas. He leaves a legacy of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Three very special friends and care-caregivers, Dr. Thomas Bailey, Sandra Chandler, and Floyd Vaughn.
James’ spirit and special personality will be forever cherished and remembered by many.
